We are so excited to welcome our first sweet babe and today I am sharing all our design plans for our gender neutral nursery.
Gender Neutral Nursery
I have been dreaming of putting this board together for such a long time. I am so excited to share our design plans with all of you. As many of you know we chose not to find out the gender of our baby.
We are so excited to be surprised. Secretly I am hoping it makes labor a little easier knowing we get to find out who we have been loving on all these months.
The room we selected for the nursery is actually almost as big as our master. We debated choosing one of the smaller rooms but none of them seemed right. So baby is going to have lots of room and that gives me even more space to decorate!
Overall Design
One reason it was pretty easy for me to not find out the gender is because I love all things neutral. Knowing the gender would not have changed that.
The overall design plan is going to be a mix of white, grays and beige elements with some hits of gold and some natural elements. I always suggest if you are going neutral to add texture where you would add color.
Our main design element for this space is going to be a full height board and batten detail that spans all four walls. This is going to make this white room have so much character and personality.
Below I am sharing all the details and sources linked on our style board.

Full Height Board and Batten | We will be painting the room Simply White by Benjamin Moore. I have a traditional board and batten post here. We will be doing the full height board and batten very similar but I will provide a full blog post when it is complete. This is also perfect for a feature wall.
Rattan Pendant | Love this natural pendant. It is going to add so much texture to the space and be a nice natural contrast to the white.
Austen Crib | I fell in love with this crib for a couple of reasons. I love the look of the spindles but didn’t want a crib that looked too vintage. This has a modern feel with out being too modern and I love the rounded sides. It is also very inexpensive for Pottery Barn so that is a win.
Wall Book Storage| We have the perfect spot in between two windows to do a book wall. These are super versatile and inexpensive.
Babyletto Kiwi Power Recliner Glider | I have done so much research and keep coming back to this one. Yes it is a little more expensive than I was planning but I love all the features that it has. It power reclines glides and swivels and it has USB ports on the side. Not to mention it is very stylish which is actually hard to find.
White and Gold Accent Table | I wanted to add some gold accents and this is perfect. I have a decent amount of space where the glider is going so I wanted a little table for drinks etc. when nursing.
Stonnington Area Rug | I am obsessed with this rug! It is 100% wool and hand tufted. I love the pattern, it is very playful while still being neutral. It also just looks so soft. I can’t wait to share it which you when it comes in. If you are on the hunt for a rug I love Boutique Rugs and have a coupon code for 60% off any rug! Use code MDD60
Round Gold Decorative Mirror | This mirror is so nice and very big for the price. I just put one in our bedroom and ordered a second one for the nursery. It does go in and out of stock so be sure to put alerts on if you are looking to buy.
Antique Dresser | I have a dresser similar to this one shown here that we use to have in our bedroom. I am moving it over to the nursery and plan on painting it some version of white. I may also do a color but I am still torn! Overall though it is perfect for the nursery because the drawers were always a little small for our clothes.
Olive Tree | I always love adding a little greenery to a space. It is a must even in a nursery.
Sutton Woven Storage | Storage is key and I love the texture that these baskets add.
Cuddle + Kind Dolls | I am obsessed with these dolls. I can’t wait for our little love to have a bunch of them. The company also provides meal for families in need. One doll provides ten meals to children in North America and around the world.
That is everything for now. I am sure once we start getting the space pulled together I will be adding even more decor items. I will be sharing some progress post along the way, like the DIY full height board and batten and painting the dresser. As well as the grand reveal so be on the look out. I would love to hear your thoughts on our design leave a comment below and tell me what you think.

I just love that you are creating a neutral space!!!! I think one of my favorite elements is the pendant light – awesome. FYI, not knowing the sex of my children did help me to get through labor. All the best to you…and i look forward to seeing the room:)
